Koala History
What is the history of the koala
bear?
Koalas were hunted near to extinction in the early
1900's for their furs. After recovering, the koala population has recently been hit by diseases. The most common
one is chlamydia.
Mainland koala populations continue to decline, but
some island populations are too high for their own good- koalas are eating more eucalyptus trees than the islands
can support! Various methods of population control are necessary to curb these populations.
